China Mobile’s refusal to bow down to Apple’s domineering ways, as far as bringing the iPhone 3G to market in China is concerned, has been well documented. Well, it looks like the situation with China Mobile and Apple is about to change, but not in the way that everyone has expected.
According a report from the Daiwa Institute of Research being cited by the South China Morning Post, Apple is prepping a 3G and Wi-Fi-less version of the iPhone for the Chinese market. Apple’s first generation iPhone did not have 3G when an estimated 400,000 users in China Mobile’s network purchased it, so that wouldn’t be a problem. However, the absence of Wi-Fi could be a deal breaker for some.
